Senior Brand Designer

As Senior Brand Designer on the Growth and Marketing Team, you’ll be an integral part in elevating design at Universe and helping to shape the future of the events industry by creating our brand and visual identity, and bringing our stories and experiences to life. You’ll be responsible for translating complex ideas and concepts into compelling stories and experiences that inspire and engage across many touchpoints - website, emails, advertising, social media, sales materials, and everything in between. You’ll collaborate with a cross-functional team of passionate problem solvers focused on building an impactful product that people love to use. We’re looking for a talented self-starter who has deep experience in communications design and a passion for propelling business results. What You’ll Do:

  • Collaborate with the team to grow Universe into a world-class brand and visual identity system that scales across channels, mediums, geographies and languages
  • Apply the Universe brand guidelines consistently to any campaign or marketing assets you create across various platforms (Print, Digital, Product and Physical)  
  • Execute end-to-end creative & marketing design strategy for multiple touch points based on brand guidelines
  • Create prototypes in varying levels of fidelity to help teams determine the design direction
  • Develop assets such as illustrations, brand assets, user flows and mockups to support various projects such as digital ads and email campaigns, landing pages as well as social media marketing
  • Keep assets up to date, organized, and easily accessible for others to use
  • Set and govern high-quality standards for communication design at Universe
  • Work closely with the product design team to continue building our brand guidelines and design language and ensure there is close alignment with product
  • Defend design solutions in a way that’s thoughtful and articulate using strong rationale while also being able to listen to and synthesize stakeholder feedback in order to move design decisions forward
  • Help hire, coach and mentor junior talent


What We’re Looking For:

  • Exceptional craftsmanship and high-quality design solutions
  • Minimum of 5+ years as a graphic, visual, or marketing designer
  • A strong portfolio of communication design experience that showcases cutting-edge work, a mastery of best practices for your mediums, successful outcomes and the breadth and depth of your work across a variety of applications and media
  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written, and presentation and the ability to use storytelling to create inspiring narratives of your work, the process you took to get there and the future you envision
  • A track record of building successful campaigns and marketing solutions
  • Someone that’s not afraid to take risks and bring a fresh perspective that pushes the boundaries of what’s possible
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience establishing a brand identity - from understanding strategy to creative interpretation and execution; designing visual identities and defining brand architectures and building clear and useful guidelines for implementation
  • Strong design thinking process and information and visual design skills including typography, layout and colour theory, copywriting and illustration skills
  • Experience designing responsive websites
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver exceptional design at high volumes under tight timelines
  • Love sharing your work because it’s how you improve
  • A love for experimentation and using analytics to measure and inform your work
  • Proficiency with common suite of industry marketing design tools including Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Mailchimp, Abstract & HubSpot etc.
  • Someone that is open, patient, understanding and ego-free
  • A self-starter that is eager to lead your own projects and take initiative
  • Someone that’s self-motivated to take ownership of their projects while relentlessly looking for the best ways to solve business problems and improve the customer experience
  • Detail oriented and has a mindset that no task is too small
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, in graphic design, communications design, or an equivalent visual degree


Bonus if you have:

  • Experience working at a startup
  • Ability to develop animations and use motion design to bring your ideas to life
