Business Development Representative – Territory Central

Please note: Position is based in San Francisco, CA.

About the Team and Role:

Universe is growing fast and we’re seeking a high-energy, bright, and forward-thinking Business Development Representative to join our Sales team.

As the Business Development Representative (BDR) you will be the first point of contact with prospective customers. You will be responsible for generating demand and interest for Universe while creating a pipeline of business for the Account Executives on your team. You will also manage day to day sales projects that support lead generation and pitches.

You will need to understand our ideal customer profiles, how to identify sources of leads, and how to gather the right information to effectively qualify a lead. Ideal candidates are creative, passionate, and self-driven team players, and who is interested in working in a fast growing environment.



Your main objective will be to source and research new sales leads in the Central region, while also managing incoming leads for your territory. You will also coordinate with your AE counterparts to determine the accounts that require research and prospecting activities to secure a sufficient flow of additional qualified opportunities.

  • Proactively seek new business opportunities in the market
  • Research accounts, identify key players, generate interest and develop accounts to stimulate opportunity
  • Sourcing pipeline via direct outreach (phone and email) based on our prospect database and your own research
  • Qualify and develop prospects to create sales-ready leads and opportunities
  • Set up meetings or calls between (prospective) clients and Account Executives
  • Create sales enablement materials to arm Account Executives with during meetings and demos
  • Keep Universe’s sales and management teams informed by maintaining accurate records within


Required Skills/Experience:

  • Highly motivated, resourceful, and creative with a results-oriented attitude to achieve goals
  • Direct sales experience not required, but sales/admin/customer service experience is a plus!
  • Positive and energetic phone skills, excellent listening skills, strong writing skills
  • Proficient with standard corporate productivity tools (email, voicemail, MS Office)
  • Solution-oriented thinker with a can-do attitude
  • Deadline-driven, detail-oriented, self-starter who can identify new and creative ways to support sales in your territory
  • Strong understanding of technology as well as how to efficiently use it
  • Excellent social skills; friendly and outgoing, not afraid to connect with new people


  • This is a full-time paid position. Competitive base salary
